Allen Bliven grew up on the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. It was here that he developed his love for waterfowl hunting. Growing up in a place with such a deep rooted waterfowl and gunning history, it was only natural to become obsessed with waterfowl hunting. The obsession has lead Allen and his wife, Julie, to many diverse destinations in the pursuit of waterfowl.
In 1990 Allen enlisted in the United States Coast Guard following another deep rooted Outer Banks tradition. Allen had to put his waterfowl obsession on hold during the early years of his career, due to his assignments aboard ships. Then, in the mid nineties, the obsession hit hard again when Allen and Julie purchased land near world famous Lake Mattamuskeet for the construction of their own private waterfowling paradise.
In 2001, as a way to fuel his obsession in the off season, Allen began turning waterfowl calls as a hobby. This hobby triggered the development of Allen Bliven Calls (ABC), a leading waterfowl calls manufacturing company in North Carolina.
Allen retired in 2010 after serving 20 years in the United States Coast Guard. Upon retirement, he relocated his call company to the waterfowl mecca of the East Coast – Hyde County, North Carolina. Allen’s calls are the ultimate waterfowling tools used by die hard hunters and professional guides across North America. His calls have been used to capture over 85 Waterfowl Calling Championships since 2005.
Allen is a supporter of Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl and Combat Warriors to name a few. He has donated numerous calls and hunts to help raise money for the enhancement of waterfowl habitat.
